To be totally honest, I’m not sure just how much explaining this cartoon needs, but nevertheless…
Before all this started Donald Trump said we had nothing to worry about because the COVID-19 virus would just disappear. As you might have already heard, it didn’t.
Trump also said it was OK to reopen the economy. The results show it wasn’t.
In a recent press conference Trump once again argued that testing leads to more COVID-19 cases which – as I’ve pointed out before – is like arguing X-rays lead to broken bones. Testing just reveals the cases that are already there.
Trump has said it’s OK to open schools because children are pretty much immune to the virus.
According to a report by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Children’s Hospital Association there has been 90 percent increase in the number of coronavirus cases among U.S. children over a four-week period and according to CNN nearly 100,000 kids tested positive in the last two weeks of July.
And focusing on the kids ignores the adults; the teachers, the cafeteria workers, the bus drivers – all the people necessary to make a school work.
CNN also reported that in an Atlanta, Georgia suburb 826 students and 42 staff had to undergo quarantine after multiple positive tests in the first week of school and in Mississippi 22 schools reported COVID-19 cases.
Despite a half-assed endorsement that was too little and too late, Trump – through word and example – has undermined the most effective tool we have to fight the COVID-19 virus; wearing masks.
Bottom line: there are probably practicing Druids — assuming Druids still exist and practice — who have a better understanding of science than our president. Donald Trump has ignored science and his own medical experts and we’re all paying the price.
With about 4% of the world’s population the United States had 25% of the known coronavirus cases and 22% of the deaths.
This morning’s Kansas City Star had an Associated Press story that said it took six months for the world to reach 10 million cases of the coronavirus and just over six weeks for that number to double.
The same story said some of the worst-hit nations were the ones who have leaders that have downplayed the severity of the situation. The presidents of Brazil, Mexico and the Good Old USA rarely wear masks and resisted calls for strict lockdowns and guess which countries have big coronavirus problems.
Meanwhile, Trump – who may need rotator cuff surgery after spending so much time patting his own back – has expressed an interest in having his face added to Mt. Rushmore. According to the New York Times, White House aides have reached out to South Dakota’s governor about the process of adding more presidents to the memorial, assuming there’s enough mountain left for the portrayal of the World’s Largest Combover.
Adding another president to Mt. Rushmore seems totally unnecessary…we already have two Grand Canyons.
The sign should read scientism- not science. My nephew’s girlfriend went in to be tested and was negative. While waiting to be tested she became aware of someone in the waiting room with the symptoms. She tested positive a week later after she got the symptoms. She suffered mild flu symptoms. She’s fine. Ah, youth. But keep fearmongering, we’ll bring this country to its knees soon.
