Here's how Donald Trump insulted election workers
I don’t often get inspired by opinion page editorials and to be perfectly honest neither do most opinion page editorial writers, but I recently read one in the Kansas City Star that made a good point.
Donald Trump’s false claims and lies about election fraud (and let’s throw in the people who support those false claims and lies about election fraud) is a slap in the face of election workers; the people who worked long hours for little pay and at least this year risked their lives so the rest of us could vote.
And now we have news from a White House insider who says Trump is not only refusing to concede the election and let Joe Biden’s team get to work on the COVID-19 crisis Trump clearly doesn’t care about, but Trump is actively working to make Biden’s presidency a failure.
Believe it or don’t…your call…but here’s something that appeared on the CNN website:
Boxing Biden in on foreign policy
A report by CNN’s national security team is emblematic of how Trump's administration is working actively in ways to make Biden's life more difficult.
The goal is to set so many fires that it will be hard for the Biden administration to put them all out, an administration official tells CNN in the report.
Trump's administration is:
Further removing troops from Afghanistan and Iraq in the final days of Trump's time as President.
Contemplating new terrorist designations in Yemen that could complicate efforts to broker peace.
Rushing through authorization of a massive arms sale that could alter the balance of power in the Middle East.
Planning a last-minute crackdown on China.
Floating the idea of a last-minute military strike on Iran, according to The New York Times.
Building a wall of sanctions that make it difficult for Biden to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal Trump scuttled.
Sending Mike Pompeo on the first-ever official visit by a US secretary of state to an Israeli settlement.
Intentionally making things more difficult for Biden could set up Trump's argument for a 2024 rematch, according to experts in the report.
So the guy who says he loves America is doing everything he can to make America’s next four years as difficult as possible. This is the kind of behavior that inspired the “Stop the Heel” cartoon takeoff on the “Stop the Steal” movement.
BTW: “Stop the Steal” is actually a Roger Stone disinformation campaign that he started in 2016 to fundraise ahead of that election. Back then Stone was saying Trump’s Republican opponents for the nomination were going to steal the election and then once Trump got the nomination Stone changed lanes and said the Democrats were going to steal the election – seems to be a theme – and asked people for $10,000 donations to help prevent that.
Stone – who isn’t in prison like he ought to be because his pal the Law-and-Order president commuted his sentence for committing seven felonies – dusted off his 2016 “Stop the Steal” campaign and brought it back just in time to cause more trouble in 2020.
I dare you to say that in court
Just this morning I read about three more Trump legal actions getting thrown out because unlike Twitter when you go to court you actually have to provide some evidence that what you’re saying is true.
And if you lie in court – also unlike Twitter – you can be charged with perjury and it turns out when faced with being penalized for lying their asses off, the Trump lawyers started backtracking or deciding maybe they didn’t want to be involved after all.
Bottom line: Rudy Giuliana can say anything he wants at a press conference, let’s see him say it in a court.
And “Stop the Steal” is especially ironic because now that Trump lost the election and can’t get any traction in the courts, he’s trying to get legitimate votes thrown and asked state Republican leaders in Michigan to visit him today and people think Trump’s going to try to convince them to ignore Biden’s win and send electors to the Electoral College who will back him instead.
Just when you think Trump can’t stoop any lower…
Y’know, when Donald Trump lost the election I foolishly thought, “Finally…I can quit drawing and writing about this jerk.”
Hasn’t really worked out that way has it?
