Pretty sure this one doesn’t need all that much explaining, but here goes just in case.
Donald Trump is very worried – or is at least willing to act like he is – about statues glorifying the Confederacy and a bunch of racists; he wants those statues protected.
While he was at it, Trump also took a shot at NASCAR for banning the Confederate flag at their races and events.
The White House tried to spin that one into something different; the incredibly lifelike Kayleigh McEnany said Trump was “not making a judgement call” about the Confederate flag, so maybe the flag is OK and maybe it isn’t. No word on how Trump feels about bed sheets, hoods or burning crosses – stay tuned.
Despite his press secretary’s attempt to muddy the waters, Trump’s message seems clear:
“If you’re a racist, vote for me.”
OK, my bad…I’m wandering off into a rant about Trump’s willingness to exploit racism and racists if it gets him re-elected.
And by the way: if you happen to be a Grand Wizard in the KKK or just a regular, old, run-of-the-mill racist, I sincerely doubt Trump actually gives a rat’s ass about any statue that doesn’t have his name on it. He’ll just do or say anything that he believes will get him more votes.
Anyway…
While Trump has talked about protecting Confederate statues, he seems a lot less worried about the health of American citizens. He still doesn’t wear a mask in public, is willing to hold rallies without masks or social distancing and is now threatening to cut funding of schools that do not fully reopen.
Just so you know: Trump does not actually have the power to cut current federal funding to schools on his own, but he could try to restrict pandemic relief funding – which would lead to a court battle – and refuse to sign legislation for future funding, but there’s not much he can do without getting other people to go along with it and so far those other people don’t seem inclined to do so.
Bottom line:
Trump cares more about the safety of Confederate statues than the safety of American citizens and if a couple hundred thousand of us have to die to get him re-elected, Donald Trump is willing to live with that.
P.S.
If you’re thinking that’s a lot of words for a cartoon that didn’t need much explaining you’re right, but just wait until you see what I write about a cartoon that does need some explaining.
Look for my version of “War and Peace” tomorrow assuming I finish it today.
The NY DA will arrest Chump as soon as Biden gets sworn in. In my 68 years of living experience I have never experience the tragedy of our country. But, the GOP finally, found a replacement for Tricky Dick.
We will have a new Independence Day come November 3rd!❤️☘️😎👏
There were more reasons for the Confederacy than racism. For many people some of those statues represent states’ rights and, ironically, Liberty. But let’s just rile up the ranks and say racism.
