Thank you for reminding us of an amazing Royal's 15' season. My heart sinks every time I see Ventura's name, too sad. I'm struggling with this seasons U turn. My husband said there's a lot of season left, but tough to come back when you're in the losing mode.

We've seen some remarkable comebacks in baseball, but the reason we remember them is they're rare. Your husband's right there is a lot of season left, but maybe not enough.

The Royals are currently 42 and 48, a .467 winning percentage. Last year Cleveland won the division with 92 wins, so to pick a number out of the air, let's say the Royals need to win 93 games which would mean going 51 and 21 the rest of the way, which right now seems unlikely.

Plus the Royals have to decide if they're buyers or sellers at the trade deadline which is July 31st.

On the upside: ballplayers have to deal with a lot of failure and players will tell you there's always something to play for even if it's just making the team in 2026. Baseball is always worth watching and we'll go see Romeo & Juliet even though we're pretty sure they're going to die in the end.

And yeah, what happened to Yordano is a tragedy. First time I saw him in spring training I had no idea who he was, but after he threw one pitch I asked somebody, "Who's that?" An immensely talented kid we never got to see develop into an immensely talented veteran.

You hit the nail on the head with your comment about Royals deciding if they are buyers or sellers. The problem remains that they are not & never have been buyers!

Could it be that hitters avoided hitting the ball the other way because it took away their power? Power is where the $ is.

That's exactly why they did it and why strikeouts are way up, to pull the ball you have to swing sooner and if you swing sooner you get fooled more often. So the question is are there to build up your numbers or help your team win and the guys who want to win have become the exception.

Thanks so much for these posts! I was fortunate to catch Rusty Kunitz at spring ball last year for ten minutes between outfield drills. I hurled non stop stupid questions at him and he handled it with grace and great information. Top of my bucket list: watch a Royals game with Rusty and have him tell me what is really going on. Until then, I’ll read your posts!
