Jerry Dipoto, the guy who runs the Mariners, used to live here and when he was a player we worked out together. One of the funniest people I've ever met.
Baseball went down the analytics road which resulted in some unintended consequences like lousy defense and 3 1/2 hour games. Nobody wants to get rid of analytics, they can provide useful information, but analytics shouldn't be the only tool teams use. Player and coach experience needs to be mixed in and on the best teams, they are.
Great analysis.
Thanks. If it's any good I owe it to all the ballplayers who told me what to look for.
One of your best baseball columns, love the analysis!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Well, it’s fun being a Mariners fan this year and that’s something.

Yikes. Thanks for channeling our pain and disgust. That baseball seems to be doing this to itself on purpose is beyond understanding.
