I'm glad to read it again! I keep in mind that bit about Bochy managing by the scoreboard, and thinking about managing and playing the game you've got NOW! Could apply to real life.

I had a dream last night not about baseball. In the dream I was using a bathroom on a school campus. It was a women's bathroom. But in the stall next to me was Trump. I waited until he was done, we got out of our stalls at the same time and I said to him, "You're an asshole."

And then I left.

And woke up. Laughing.

And glad the Yankees made the kinds of errors they did last night!

At the risk of sounding like one of those old grumps who yell at kids to get off their lawn; even though we're in the playoffs with the (at least theoretically) best teams playing we're still seeing errors and dropped balls and bad routes and mistakes on the base paths.

Defense has been de-emphasized along with getting the ball in play and we're watching the results.

And now I need to go yell at some kids.

PS: May all your dreams come true.

HOW could you forget you wrote this gem? Worried about you, Mr. J.

Love the Billy Boy Beane quote about his $#!t now working in October.

Reminds me of my all-time favorite quote about playoff baseball from the great Grant Brisbee of the Athletic: "The postseason is when the Baseball Gods drink and play at dice."

Great insight. Ya gotta love the knowledge Rusty let you in on when you were doing the Royal's columns.

The Royal's need to keep Rusty in the dugout as Q's bench coach. He could do as much good in that capacity as Charlie Lau did for George Brett back in the day.

Seems like analytics is taking common sense out of the way managers use their resources.

Rusty's still around in some capacity. I was lucky to get to spend so much time with him.

Analytics can provide some valuable information, but I agree with Tony LaRussa when he said it was most helpful pre & postgame for evaluation and analysis, but not so great during the game when he had to manage by what he was seeing that night.
