One of the advantages of being very near sighted for me was that I always took off on the biggest waves. Everyone thought I was really gutsy. When I finally got contacts I could wear in the water, I was suddenly more reluctant.
No fun! I've been wearing glasses since I was nine (1974) and while they were no fun until rimless ones came back in style and were easily available a few years ago, I was always too squeamish to stick anything in my eye, so contacts were out. Come to think of it, I never used tampons, either. Oh, geez, I've never told a dude that. hahahahahahahaha ... have a good one, Lee, and heal quickly. You're missed!
