If you're looking for breakfast try the City Diner at 301 Grand Blvd. Best bacon in town and now you made me hungry for that. If it's lunch, try Harry's Country Club, 112 E. Missouri, just a few blocks from the City Diner and you might try their City Fried Chicken. So many dives, so little time.
I grew up in Raytown but have lived in San Diego for about the last fifty years. I have never heard KC referred to as The Paris of the Plains (this may have come from Howard Cosell)
But I definitely remember City of Fountains as a nickname.
Yeah, they still use City of Fountains although City of Bigass Potholes would be more accurate. Enjoy San Diego, I lived there for two years and people swam in my apartment complex pool on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Nice place.
I used to get a kick out of the urinal at the Rieger, had a plaque over it - Just said "Al Capone pissed here". I miss the Rieger!
