I read you because you have a humorous viewpoint of current affairs. I don't necessarily agree with everything you express (that would be dangerous), but enjoy your point of view. No need for you to be defensive Lee.

Glad to have you as a reader, but telling me there's no need to be defensive is like being inside a tank during a battle and telling the guy whose head is sticking out of the tank there's no need to duck. (And I wrote that joke just for you, so I hope you appreciate it.)

Excellent advice, though your low road seems pretty high. Where were you in my 30s and 40s?

In my long decades of being right, I've only changed two minds with my arguments, each pure dumb luck. And I am kind of proud of the time I put the SDU-T political cartoonist with the President of Sea World together at one of our fancy Chef's Table lunches and heard Kelley say as he was introduced, "Oh, I just did a really mean cartoon about you guys."

Been meaning to say how fun that jaunt down S.D. Chicken memory lane was. Ran into him in full Chicken mode, at an office party. Would've been hugely disappointed had he not made the "big pecker" comment.

Steve Kelley replaced me at the Union and despite my less-than-stellar career there I still like San Diego a lot. If I remember correctly, Ted Giannoulas got the Chicken gig mainly because he fit the costume and then turned out to be a mime genius...unfortunately, his genius inspired a lot of bad imitators. I can still remember bits like the one where he came out of the bullpen on rollerblades being pulled like a water skier behind a tractor and went tumbling across the outfield. He cracked up the players and most mascots just aren't that funny.

I gotta admit you're my second favorite political cartoonist, because Pat Oliphant always had the top spot. But you're definitely my favorite local guy 😀

No complaints about coming in second to Pat. He and Jeff MacNelly were the two cartoonist who made me want to get into the business and both those guys were way more talented than I am, although I'm lots more fun at a party. Pat's still with us, but we lost Jeff in the year 2000 and I miss him all the time.
