In my first attempt I called Jason "illegible" for the Hall of Fame which he clearly was because it seemed like they couldn't read his statistics. I changed it to "eligible" anyway.

What a great read. After finishing it, I took my garbage out through 12 inches of snow and ice. There was though, an undeniable whiff of spring in the air and I'm going to attribute it to this piece. Thanks for a Monday boost!

Lee, that was a great read. I'll come clean here. My Jason Kendall memory was a bet I made with a friend of mine in the 2010 season. We set the over/under for JK HR's at 1 and I took the under.....and won the bet. Your article opened my eyes to how good Jason actually was, especially compared to HOF catchers and his various statistical categories. Thanks for the insight.

No sweat. We got Jason at the end of his career so we didn't see him at his best, and even though we're friends, once I started digging through the numbers I was surprised at how well he compared to the Hall of Fame catchers.

Yeah, but I don't think the Star would want me as a beat reporter and at this stage of my life I wouldn't want to be one. Way too much travel and long hours and you can't make jokes while you're writing. Glad you enjoyed the article and "Throwback" is always worth reading again.
