I watched all but the last 15 minutes. Biden is still my president. I may not like him as much as I did Obama or Clinton or Carter, but what I try to remember when I think of the debate last night is that however much trouble Biden was having, at least what he was having trouble saying was the truth, not a bunch of lies like his opponent.

Elaine: As you point out a healthy liar is no bargain and according to CNN Trump made 30 false claims during the debate, far more than Biden and if you want to read what those were here's a link:

More than a couple chuckles with this post, Lee. I'm not voting for trump and i gotta vote for Biden if he stays in it or whoever (or is it "whomever"?) the DNC lands on. Two things to keep in mind are: 1 - Voters must consider who a leader surrounds himself with, who his advisors are. And B - If Biden stays in the race a third-party candidate will pull many more voters away from Biden than trump making a possible Democratic win much, much. much less likely.

Doug: Always happy to make readers laugh, so thanks for letting me know I did my job with this one. I've been wrong about a lot of important stuff so I wouldn't place any bets on me being right, but I'm guessing there's no way Biden gets replaced on the ticket. Changing course with a huge bureaucracy is like trying to make a U-turn with an oil tanker. Having said that, if Biden does get replaced I'll vote for who and or whomever replaces him unless they come up with a serial killer who thinks starting a runner on second base in extra innings is a good idea.

Thanks for the smile on a depressing morning. What a state we’re in.

JR: You're welcome. Don't know if this will help because I'm setting the bar pretty dang low, but when things look bad I always think we had a Civil War and came through it so we'll survive whatever mess we're currently in although according to the internet 850,000 people died during the Civil War so they'd probably disagree with me.

I didn’t watch the thing yesterday. I was mostly watching the Royals beat Cleveland. That felt good. I knew— that since I’m already clinically depressed The Debate was not an option. I knew I’d have to read some of the news today. And I put that off until I read your post.

Yay!! Thanks for making me laugh! Between the heat and politics, it’s been a shitstorm. And it’s great to have a respite!
