"But – unfortunately for the kids – the same people who think women should be forced to give birth because abortion is a killing a child, don’t seem to mind starving those kids or denying them adequate medical care or a quality education after they arrive."

Spot on Lee. Spot on.

You're welcome. Anytime I can weld an insult to a profanity and then give it to readers for their future use, I feel like I've performed a service.

Erika-

See, that is the problem: we are becoming too wrapped up in single issues with only binary answers. The real question is what are we doing to make abortions unnecessary? There is no simple solution and no one-size-fits-all program and it will take lots of work, money and compromise for it to work. Most people want simple, quick answers.

As much as I dislike certain politicians and political positions, broad brush strokes of the "other" only serves to justify dehumanizing them and working against compromise and solution. That being said, a little research will find that there are a not insignificant number of pro-lifers that call for and work for respect of human life from conception to natural death. This doesn't fit the political agendas, of course, so it is ignored.

If you don't like broad brush strokes, what are you doing here?

I guess I have empathy and like to consider multiple points of view while discouraging groupthink.

Personal experience.

I am strongly pro-life, which means I believe life begins at conception. As pro-lie, I also support, among other things, extended maternal and paternal care, free health care for all children to the age of 18, free school lunches (including during school breaks), subsidized day care and after school care, anti-death penalty, pro-strong gun laws, anti-euthanasia, and subsidized elder care. My church also supports these positions, so I am not alone.

So care to slot me into one of the two stereotyped political camps or shall we try to look beyond our comfortable assumptions and engage with each other to seek solutions to our problems?

I don't know who you are Blinky. You tell me what you support and that's cool, but do you vote for legislators who vote to make it difficult for women to obtain a safe and legal abortion?
