Who takes the photos used in your newsletter? As a former photojournalist at the Star, I know how I would feel if my work was not attributed.

Allison: I get most of the photos from Google Images and in today's post the top photo was taken by former Star photographer John Sleezer and given to me as a gift. The other images were from advertisements and Wikipedia, one was from MLB and another from AP. Only two of the images I used today had credit lines so it would be hard to consistently give anybody attribution, although I guess I could thank Modelo for advertising their 24-ounce cans of beer. But if anyone thinks they're getting screwed, they can contact me and I'll give them a proportional slice of the couple hundred bucks I make doing this each month.

I could definitely make more if I didn't post things for free, but I started doing that during the pandemic because I knew people would be trapped at home and needed some entertainment.

I'm familiar with people using your stuff without getting an OK because over the decades it happened to me dozens of times as a cartoonist, but it never seemed worth making an issue of it. But in the future I'll make sure to credit you if I ever use one of your pictures.

"I love baseball a lot more when I’m in an air-conditioned press box, seated in a comfortable captain’s chair and I’m not drinking $20 beers."

Chuckled when I read this. Reminded me of the first KU-MU football game at Arrowhead (before they got smart and designated seating areas according to which fan base you wanted to be seated around). After the game the athletic directors, sportswriters, politicians, etc all proclaimed what a wonderful event it was. Of course it was... they didn't have to have eyes in the back of their head in the restroom, or witness the drunk fans of one team pour beer over a family with two small children who were fans of the other team.... they were in suites and the press box!

After a decade of watching baseball in the most convenient way possible, buying tickets and going through what regular fans have to do to support the sport they love was a healthy dose of reality. If team owners had to buy a ticket and sit in the stands once a week, it would be a healthy thing for sports.
