I grew up here during the Hank Stram years, a friend of ours even named their pug dog Hank after him (Stram was a bit pug-like at that) but despite coming from a family that were huge fans, the football bug never bit me. To this day I’ll endure a football game if by some happenstance the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl, but don’t even think I’ll go and freeze sitting in the stadium - no way!

There’s a long, corruption filled story involving the wheels of the bus going around and around demolishing all the trolly tracks in Kansas City which just goes to show if it’s useful somebody will ruin it for money. I’m old enough that I have vague memories of SEEING trolly cars moving around the intersection of Linwood & Paseo, throwing off sparks, while going to my grandparents. I couldn’t’ve been older than three though.

As long as Kansas City is saddled with the Kansas City Missouri School District there isn’t much danger of it ever becoming world class, and I say this as someone who taught there for years.

On the other hand, Kansas City now has a world class mandolin orchestra, the Mandolin Orchestra of Kansas City (MOOKC), so that’ll help!

The cultural impact is incremental, but it's real.

It makes it more fun for KC natives transplanted elsewhere to talk about their hometown, and is a snazzier talking point than BBQ or the Chiefs when people ask about moving there. It will probably keep a few dozen young folks annually from making the move to Chicago or Dallas, and might make it marginally easier for companies to hire entry level workers in her demographic group from out-of-town.

As with Patrick Mahomes's personal effort to attract Cristiano Ronaldo to SporkingKC, it says something cool about KC that megastars feel comfortable vouching for the ability to go out without fear of being hounded by rabid fans.

However, MayorQ had better start assembling an incentive package now if he hopes to host the wedding, which is the subject of so much chatter this week. That would move the needle in a different way.

Another great one, Lee. Come for the true observation of what a great city Kansas City is -- stay for the laugh-out-loud commentary on everything from "lean in" and what reporters should do when they write that, to the machinations World Class City residents have to endure. Thanks so much for a cheerful, and still grateful to be in Kansas City, 16-degree morning!

If Taylor breaks up with Travis this weekend it'll be because the heat goes out in the box at Arrowhead and she has to join the batshit fans who are actually going to sit out there with a minus 20 windchill. 😆

Have a good weekend, Lee. Fix lots of hot toddies.

You know something crazy is going to go down with temperatures that low. Clark had better save her a spot in the Hunt family condo just to be safe.

Great f---ing column.. But cities are like sharks...if they aren't moving forward Omaha

they're dying. SporlYael used to say research said sports weren't all that important to a city, but the research looked at cities like Chicago and Los Angeles....cities that are top cities without sports. Emanuel Cleaver said it best...without the Royals snd Chiefs, we're Omaha

YOU, Lee Judge. I saw you in front of a Political Science class at KU & we were both YOUNG. We're about the same age(I got 2 KU late in life) I remember it like yesterday. I liked you then & still do. I'm a good judge of people too & you are proof. The Chiefs, I gave up my season ticket when that Joe from where? well when he left. I moved to KC after KU. Cut to the chase, Lee you're an ASSET to this "Cow Town" an a great reason to stay. One small flaw, you are just a little long winded, but worth it. So unlike your"ART" which I know NOTHING ABOUT. THANK YOU. How's Mom?

Good luck today, Chiefs fans. I'll watch the game to see Patrick Mahomes, not TS.

I'm happy to live in So. Cal with our 52-degree weather, which is a cold snap, so there!

PS Would love to hear your thoughts on the movie "Poor Things", Lee. It's weird enough to be right up your alley. I mean that in a good way.....

Thanks, Jen. It was 1 degree when I woke up and 7 now so even though it's seven times warmer, I still feel cold. I wouldn't go outside to see this game if they were playing it on my front lawn (which is a sheet of ice), but I'll be watching on TV. I have not seen "Poor Things" yet, but I've read about it and it does sound like it will be right up my weird alley.

And Spring Training starts in a month? Less than a month? That's more important than Taylor Swift. But I like some of her music, especially "Shake It Off," which in 2014 or 2015, someone used to make a song about the Kansas City Royals... BASEBALL!!!
