Nice read. Coincidentally, my Substack going up in about an hour is titled “Mass Delusions.” Pretty much the same thing. Rational people believing the most easily disproven bullshit because tribalism etc… If you’d told me when I was a teenager the world would be like this by the time I was an old man I never would’ve believed it.

Con men work their magic by telling people what they want to hear: there's a Nigerian prince having difficulty moving a bajillion dollars and if you'll just give him your bank account numbers he'll give a slice of it for nothing.

People believe outlandish bullshit because they want to believe it. They want to believe they don't need to get vaccinated, they want to believe the guy they voted for won and they want to believe their dicked-up lives aren't the result of their own shitty choices; it's somebody else's fault so let's blame them.

And now that anyone can post pretty much anything (apparently we're proof of that) you can go online and find someone to tell you you're right.

P.S. Thanks for telling me I'm right, Philip. And good luck with your Substack.

“… who’s getting how much money from who to do what?”

Instant classic (unless it is already).

Thanks, Jr. although in retrospect I should have worked harder to get "why" and "where" in there.
